last hawaiian blog

here i am
sitting in burger king
where i found wireless reception
to shaka.net
and decided to photoblog
for the last 2 or 3 hours
while waiting for my flight out
i've 15 minutes to go
and i must say
i've had an amazing time
haven't been online
since maui
big island - well you can get a rough idea
from the photos i posted
but the coolest things i've seen and done
will remain in my mind
as i watched the sun rise
from beneath the surface of the ocean
countless mornings
and often in the presence of a few sea turtles
who were resting at cleaning stations
while colourful reef fish ate the algae off of them
i've enjoyed great food
and great company
local and travel-companion-wise
i've been in the water every chance i could get
and yesterday morning
close to the captain cook monument
on big island
i went swimming with wild spinner dolphins
after kayaking out to the monument
these dolphins truly do flip and spin in the wild
when i finally met
the pod of 7 adults and 4 babies
face to face
it was like a dream
i swam with them for over an hour
and the only reason
i left
was because i had to return the kayak
and catch a flight to honolulu
if i had known
about the dolphins earlier
you can bet
i'd have been there every morning
trying to meet them
and swim with them
the only reason
i think i could keep up
was because they had the babies with them
it was a joy to watch
them circle and play
i swam beside them
on top of them
and beneath them
amazing!
and now i have to go catch my hideously long flight
to minneapolis and then to edmonton
(can we say backtrack?)
